You’re five today. I have memories from when I was five, but
not many more before that. I pray that the same is true for you, because the
cards that you have been dealt in your five years are just not fair. I pray that
the next five and the five after that and the five after that will be so
bright.
You started kindergarten two weeks ago. The first day of 5K
and your fifth birthday are big milestones that should be celebrated. I shed
tears on these important days with the older ones; I couldn’t believe they were so
old! I shed them for you, too… not because I’ve had the privilege of watching
you grow up like I have them, but because you deserve to have those people in
your life who are a little bit sad to see you become such a big girl.
But L, we want you to know that we are for you. We are so for you. Your life has not been easy, and you
have not always made ours easy, but we love you. We celebrate you because you
are special. You are fun. Your smile lights up the room.
I hate the realities of foster care, but I love you. I love
how God has used your story to change our hearts. I love that what the enemy
meant for evil, God is working for your good. We have hope that your future is
bright. Your presence in our lives has given us more opportunities to share
than we ever had before. Your story is making a difference.
We don’t know what the next five years look like for you,
and that sometimes makes it hard to rest. But here’s what we do know:you are a beautiful little girl. You are a
sweet friend. You are a great sister. You are a really fun kid. You have an infectious giggle. And you are loved.
You don’t really know who you belong to and that breaks my
heart. But we believe in our hearts that God is writing a beautifully
redemptive story for you. We wait in anticipation to see how that will end. But
more than anything, our heart’s prayer is that you would know who you belong
to. You are loved by a God that created you perfectly. You are precious to Him.
You have value and worth and we are asking Him to plant that knowledge way deep
in your heart.
You are not anonymous to God and you are not anonymous to
us. You are treasured and we love you. Happy birthday, little one! I hope that
today you know how special you really are.
